Date : Apr 24, 2023 08:00 AM

Introduction

In 2023, the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) initiated a collaborative training effort with SMAP (Science, Management, Accounting and Pedagogy Institute) aimed at enhancing the professional competencies of OAG staff. The training encompassed critical areas including project planning and management, fostering professional harmony among auditors, auditees, and government entities, effective reporting and language usage, as well as interactive leadership skills.

Overview

Although the original plan included sessions on all four topics, due to prioritization, the training initially focused solely on project planning and management. This decision was driven by the recognition of its immediate relevance to OAG operations. The training on project planning and management was held from April 24, 2023, to May 2, 2023. A total of 25 OAG staff members participated in the training, engaging in interactive sessions, case studies, and practical exercises to deepen their understanding of project management principles.

Training Content
Project Planning and Management

Participants received comprehensive instruction on the principles and practices of project planning and management, equipping them with the necessary skills to effectively initiate, execute, and monitor projects within the OAG framework.

Topics Covered:
•Fundamentals of project planning
•Defining project objectives
•Work breakdown structures
•Project scheduling
•Project risk management

Outcome

The training provided participants with valuable insights and practical tools to enhance their project planning and management skills. Participants gained a deeper understanding of the project lifecycle and learned techniques to improve project outcomes and mitigate risks.

Future Plans

While the training on project planning and management was successfully conducted, the remaining sessions on professional harmony, reporting and language, and interactive leadership were postponed due to competing priorities within the OAG's work schedule. However, efforts will be made to incorporate these topics into future training programs to further enhance the professional development of OAG staff.

Conclusion

The success of the training collaboration underscores the commitment of OAG to continuous improvement and capacity building. Moving forward, OAG remains dedicated to leveraging such collaborative efforts to foster professional development and uphold the highest standards of auditing excellence.
